My parents are first generation Chinese and raised me in a way consisting of tradition, respect, and filial piety. But I was born in America. A country which values the ingenuity of individualism, rebellion, and self fulfillment.
As a designer, balancing two conflicting world views has helped keep my mind open to understand and appreciate new ideas but stay critical of their message. I believe it's crucial to hear other people's thoughts in order to weigh them against my own. When designing with a team I always question "why" and as a design leader I expect the same. If people don't understand, then they cannot believe, and if they cannot believe, then they cannot have passion. I believe that design is passion with a direction and a goal. Without it, there is no design.
I want to hear other people's beliefs and work with others as passionate as I am about design. And I want to use design to share my passion with the world.
