Shane Hsien-Yu Li

Statement

When I was younger, I used to stare at my grandfather’s robotic ladybug crawl around for hours. I admired the beauty in its mechanics. Seeing how things could be paired together inspires me to construct things in a way that allows me to observe how they would behave. Discovering how things work through a hands-on approach and then asking ‘why’ pushes my life forward.

Growing up in Taiwan, I have an appreciation for the wisdom of Eastern cultures, especially in the ancient game of chess called “Go”. This game taught me that the key to winning is not finding the next best move, but rather using ingenuity to map out the next thirty moves. This approach of having a strategic vision trickled into other aspects of my life and provides clarity when I build things.

Understanding diversity in tangible objects and cultures have made me the designer I am today.I enjoy the process of design. I invent creations focused around the needs of people. I am Shane Li.
