When I was 9 years old I first read Clarke's 3rd law. It states:
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
This blew my mind.
And it still does today.
If technology is indistinguishable from magic, then its true power rests in its use and context. Regardless of how captivating a new technology might appear at first glimpse, underneath, technology is just a tool – a prop on a stage that can help tell a story – not an end in and of itself.
My role as a designer resonates deeply with my 9 year old self. I have become a technological magician of sorts. This is why I strive to create – the drive to create a narrative, and to enhance of the process of life. I design to create the sense of awe I felt as a kid.
