I’m Kevin Simmons. I spent my childhood in Alaska, raised by mechanical engineers, where everything with moving parts became a study in thermodynamics, forces, and friction. Over time I saw these technicalities reflected in real life as things deteriorated due to extreme weather and required constant upkeep in order to continue working.
I look at systems with similar tactility and interest for how things work. I illustrate sequences, synthesize information, and map how relationships are connected on a human scale. People are at the heart of the experiences I design and with their changing needs, systems need to reflect the progression of society. Systems have a rhetoric, personality, and character and when we understand them, we can see the opportunities. As a designer it is my commitment to serve this need.
